Editing Medical Device Communicator (MeDiC) PACS Server Settings for MacOS

STEP
1

MeDiC software must be installed on a local area network (LAN) and DICOM Nodes must be at the same network, otherwise, they can not communicate with each other.

To edit a MeDiC application, click on “Edit” icon on the right side of the page.

STEP
2

MeDiC General Settings will be shown.

STEP
3

Click on “PACS Server Settings” header on the upper side of the page.

STEP
4

In this page, you can see MeDiC PACS Server settings with DICOM Nodes list. MeDiC PACS Server settings are Institution, AE Title, Port and Connection Security. Institution and MeDiC PACS Server AE Title are fixed. You can edit MeDiC PACS Server Port information by writing in related fields. After port number is changed, click on the “Save” button to save the changes. Then MeDiC will automatically restart.

MeDiC software must be installed on a local area network and DICOM Nodes must be at the same network, otherwise, they can not communicate with each other.

Adding a DICOM Node

To communicate with other DICOM Compatible modalities (MRI, CT, CR, Ultrasound, etc.), you have to add their properties (AE Title, IP and Port) to each other's configuration.

DICOM request from unregistered nodes will be rejected by the MeDiC PACS Server. Therefore, every modality that will interact with the MeDiC PACS Server must be added to the Nodes list.

Each DICOM compatible device has interface for adding other DICOM Nodes to their allowed list. As an example, we gave the steps to configure Horos Viewer to work with PostDICOM MeDiC. These steps are given below.

Go to the Horos->Preferences and look at the Horos AE Title and Port.

STEP
5

Click on Sharing->Listener.

STEP
6

Copy the Horos AE Title, IP and Port number.

STEP
7

Write the visible name and IP of the DICOM Node. Then, add new AE Title by clicking on the “Add” button.

STEP
8

After clicking the “Add” icon, you can see “AE Title information” section on the lower side on the page. Change automatically filled AE Title and Port information with your medical device’s AE Title and Port information.

STEP
9

After filling with the correct information, click on the “Update” button to update AE Title List.

STEP
10

Most of the DICOM Nodes has only one AE Title and Port values. If your DICOM Node has more than one AE Title for different uses, click on the “Add” button to add new AE Title and port information.

To delete an value from the AE Title List, select it by clicking on the item. Then click the “Delete” button.

STEP
11

After filling the necessary information click on the “Add” button to add newly created DICOM node to the Nodes list.

STEP
12

New DICOM node will be added to the Nodes list on the left side of the page.

STEP
13

To reflect the changes, click on “Save” button on the upper right side of the page. If you close the Settings page without saving, all of the changes will be lost. Make sure that you saved your changes before closing the current window.

STEP
14

To communicate with MeDiC, you have to add MeDiC's AE Title, IP and Port to the Horos Viewer.

Go to Horos->Preferences and click on Locations.

STEP
15

Click on Add new node.

STEP
16

Fill the values with PostDICOM's MeDiC AE Title, IP, Port and visible name.

To verify (DICOM Echo) a DICOM Node, select the Node and then, click on the “Verify” button on the right side of the page.

STEP
19

Once you have clicked, you will see a message box indicating whether the verification successful or not.

STEP
20

If DICOM Echo (Verify) fails, you will see a dialog box indicating the problem. At that point, check that the following steps, and make sure they are correct.

MeDiC and DICOM Node must be up and running. Otherwise, they cannot accept DICOM requests.

Check that DICOM Node's AE Title, IP and Port is entered to MeDiC correctly.

Check that MeDiC's AE Title, IP and Port is entered to DICOM Node's configuration list correctly.

Firewall between MeDiC and DICOM Node is allowed to communicate on the IP and Ports of the MeDiC and DICOM Node.

STEP

Editing DICOM Nodes

You can prevent your DICOM nodes to communicate with the MeDiC PACS Server by changing is Active/Passive status. Click on the “Passive” button to make the node passive (Cannot send data to MeDiC PACS Server and cannot receive data from it). Click on the “Active” button to make the node active (can send data to MeDiC PACS Server and can receive data from it). After changing its status click on the “Save” button to save the configuration.

STEP
22

To clear all of the information on the “Properties” and “AE Title Information” area click on the “Clear” button.

STEP
23

To delete a DICOM Node, click on the node you want to delete. Then, click on “Delete” icon on the right side of the page. Click on the “Save” button to save the configuration.

STEP
24

To edit a DICOM Node, click on the node you want to edit. Make necessary changes, then click on the “Update” button on the right side of the page. Finally, click on the “Save” button to save the configuration.

STEP
25

To verify (DICOM Echo) a DICOM Node click on the “Verify” button on the right side of the page.
